Speakers 

Louis Diez, FounderDonor Participation Project

Louis Diez advises nonprofits in annual fund development, digital fundraising, and engagement strategies. He is the founder of the Donor Participation Project and the Annual Fund Toolkit. He teaches at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Previously, he was Executive Director of Annual Giving at Muhlenberg College, Director of the Annual Fund and Development Business Operations at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Associate Director of Development at Johns Hopkins SAIS. In these roles, he led teams that created growth in number of donors and dollars raised through a model he calls the Sustainable Revenue Engine. Of varied interests, Louis holds an MBA from CUNEF, a PhD in Business Administration from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (both in Spain), and an MM in Music Performance from the University of TN. His thesis applied neural networks to predict economic performance indicators. He has also published articles on the investment value of musical instruments, edited peer-reviewed papers exploring applications for economic theories of legitimacy, and been featured in the music business section of the College Music Society’s journal.

Anne MurphyFounder/CEOEmpowered Fundraiser

With 25 years leading nonprofit and higher education fundraising initiatives, raising hundreds of millions for STEM education and research, Anne is the CEO of Empowered Fundraiser Consulting and Coaching. Her company serves three critical needs in the social impact sector: professional development for fundraisers in higher education, strategic fundraising consulting for nonprofits, and responsible AI solutions and upskilling. Her advisory role on "The Framework Toward Responsible AI in Fundraising” is complemented by collaborations with high-profile organizations such as OpenAI, professional affinity groups across North America, and a leading international fundraising consultancy. Dedicated to amplifying the influence of women in fostering societal progress, Anne initiated #SheLeadsAI in January 2024. This endeavor aims to boost women's presence and leadership in AI, ensuring a diverse and empowered future. Similarly, in 2023, she trained over 2,000 fundraisers, predominantly women, how to use ChatGPT responsibly.

Chris Cannon, Chief Strategy Officer, Zuri Group

Chris’s areas of expertise include fundraising strategy and systems, resource and database management, business intelligence and data reporting, and gift and data processing. He has led fundraising operations at Saint Louis University, Saint Louis Zoo, and the Saint Louis Science Center. Prior to joining Zuri Group, Chris was a managing associate at Bentz Whaley Flessner where he provided strategic counsel on database systems, advancement operations, and fundraising strategy. Chris also served as Research and Development Services director at Saint Louis University, provided leadership for the university’s $300 million campaign, and led an interdepartmental database conversion team. Chris earned a Master of Arts from The University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Truman State University. He has been a featured speaker at CASE, APRA, AFP, and other conferences and has written articles for AFP’s Advancing Philanthropy, APRA’s Connections, and AHP’s Journal. His books—the innovative 2022 book Focused Fundraising: How to RAISE Your Sights and Overcome Overload and the 2011 classic An Executive’s Guide to Fundraising Operations (Wiley 2011)—are industry standards for maximizing ROI from operations.

Dave Woodley, Chief Data Officer, University of Alaska Foundation

Dave has served in senior leadership roles at the University of Alaska for over 25 years - most currently as Chief Data Officer for the UA Foundation.  In addition, Dave has taught Western Civilization and American History for 24 years at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
